After careful review of Ian's proposed membership guidelines and their principles, I have come up with the following suggestions for the Membership Types and the Membership Application process:
Types of Memberships 1. Full/Active Members - Refers to members who actively contribute in the planning, execution, and operations of PLUG and its activities. These members have the right to vote and the right to be voted into office. They will also get the most benefits among members (biggest discounts) 2. Senior Members - refers to members who have at least served the organization for at least 3/5 years as a Full/Active member who still desire to be part of the organization but prefer to make moderate contributions. These members do not have the right to vote nor the right to be voted into office but they get some membership privileges (lesser discounts). A senior member may become a Full/Active member again and be accorded its rights and privileges. 3. Institutional Members - refers to an organization who wishes to become a Full/Active member of PLUG. The duly appointed person of the organization will be accorded the same rights and privileges as Full/Active members. 4. Honorary Members - a special type of membership that is awarded to individuals or institutions that has significantly contributed to the advancement of the organization's ideals. Honorary members do not have the right to vote nor to hold office. Honorary memberships are awarded by the majority vote of the Board of Trustees. Proposed Membership Application Process 1. An individual informs the organization of his/her intent to become a member of PLUG by accomplishing an application form. Immediately after the organization has acknowledged receipt of the application the individual receive the status of "Applicant". 2. If and when any two members (Full or Senior) are satisfied that an applicant has met the requirements of "active contribution" to the organization, the two members shall endorse the applicant to the membership committee. Every 6 months the membership committee shall convene itself and deliberate on the merits of the endorsed applications. If the membership committee concurs with the endorsement, a Full/Active membership is awarded to the applicant.
