try the ppid command. i dont know which package it comes from (or if its a bash builtin) since rpm.pbone.net[1] keeps on returning the epic package which i dont think is installed in my mandrake and arch systems. but i might be mistaken on that also. btw, this question is better suited for the newbie list. :) ciao!
