Good day!

For amost universally used compiled programming language, Java may fit
the bill; for fast architecture-native compiled language, C still
rocks, all else are based on this, even Java.

As for programming tools, GNU tools are the most viable.

For web application development, PHP is the most portable across platforms.

For Operating Systems, if you want to learn OS architecture
inside-out, no doubt about it, Linux is the most common, you may also
opt for the BSD variants: FreeBSD, NetBSD.

Now, I know most schools (still) use proprietary tools and platforms,
but when you want long-term, almost-always-relevant toolset (that also
means that you're not using extinct or obsolete technology just
because some megacorporation says so), GNU/Linux tools and platform
are the best options.

Hope this helps. Thanks!
