Good Morning All,

I would like to address this from an outsider's point
of view: an American in the Linux industry, who meets
with people from all over the world (Including the
Philippines) with regards to Linux and Open Source.

At my last Linux World show in Boston, I met a woman
from the Philippine Government who was tasked with
finding the infrastructure to deploy 1500 Linux / Open
Source servers around the Philippines. The directive
was due to the Government not wanting to spend the
money on MSFT, but also the PROVEN track record of
Linux.

It seems to me that the Government technology centers
/ departments could do everyone a great service by
talking about their successes, etc. with Linux and
Open Source. When companies say there isn't enough of
a track record, I'd tell them to look at IBM and
Novell to start, then look at the Cities of Munich and
Berlin, and several South American countries who have
made the switch. I'd tell them to look at what the
soon-to-be world's largest super-computer here in the
US is running...Linux. The evidence is everywhere.

What I see is superior marketing by Microsoft, or some
other factor, because based on the evidence alone, the
argument that Linux isn't ready is flat-out wrong.

Just my two cents (for what that is worth).
