OTOH, that's also a power guzzler. The current generation of PC chips doesn't look really promising in terms of power consumption- you're still looking at a nominal power consumption above 100W, as a PC would have a lot of moving parts to power. Not too nice when the electricity bill arrives by your door. Another thing - unless you'll get a mobo with dedicated 10/100/1000BaseT ethernet on a dedicated bus (e.g. CSA), 64-bit PCI, or PCI-X (incidentally - it's easier to find these parts on expensive server boards) - you'll be punishing your PCI bus as running an IDS would require that network interface cards run in promiscuous mode. Abuse of this nature will deteriorate your hardware faster. -- Paolo Alexis Falcone [EMAIL PROTECTED] _________________________________________________ Philippine Linux Users' Group (PLUG) Mailing List [email protected] (#PLUG @ irc.free.net.ph) Read the Guidelines: http://linux.org.ph/lists Searchable Archives: http://archives.free.net.ph
