Im also an advocate linux user, and an inactive member of PLUG since 2000. I have an upcoming linux seminar/training in Northern Samar this coming October, I was invited to introduce linux to my fellow samarinos. The nationwide raid triggers IT schools and other operators of computer shops to learn linux as an alternative desktop and server. It feels good though, coz it's one of my dream to share my skills especially to my fellow samarinos. Surely, i will introduce PLUG to my kababayan and hopefully join in to the mailing list of this org.

regards and more power,

yup, 95% raw ng cagayan internetcafes are closed.

Hello Sherwin,

I'm based in Cagayan de Oro. Just a clarification though in case some
may take this out of context - those Internet cafés closed shop out of
fear of being raided and not because they were actually raided and had
their units confiscated.

The confusing part is - I've read from the website of a local daily
(http://www.sunstar.com.ph) that there hasn't been any order for the
NBI to raid any Internet cafe or to check for unlicensed software in
business establishments or educational institutions.

I'm not so sure about the 95% figure but what was stated in the
article is "200+ Internet cafés." The nice thing about this whole
thing (at least for open-source) is that we've seen requests for Linux
assistance from our portal go up - either technical queries or
requests for Linux CDs.

Best regards,
Matt

P.S. If you're also based in CDO, and if you're interested, you may
want to join the Kagay-anon Linux Users Group (KLUG) mailing list at
http://cdo.linux.org.ph/mailman/listinfo/linux - these raids by the
BSA has been a regular topic for the past few days.
