I have the same laptop, and would concur that there is a considerable
amount of time required to get Ubuntu up and running on an ECS Desknote
A530 [1] -- however, there are ways for improving the performance of
Ubuntu on the specific laptop which I would be detailing soon. It has
something to do with customized hdparm [2] and apcid [3] scripts.

I'm currently working on helping improve the longrun [4] utility in its
current release in Ubuntu. I am also working on taking over the universe
[5] hosted package and be able to contribute more to the community.

We greatly appreciate your sharing your experiences. Keep it up, and I
certainly hope more people will relay their experiences just like you so
that we can hopefully work towards improving the current systems we are
currently using. :)
