It might not just be Wine, but I've observed Breezy RC to be a bit
sluggish especially if you're in GNOME. I use XFCE for a snappier
experience, but the difference between Hoary and Breezy in terms of
responsiveness is significant for me. Though, you have a more capable
laptop so YMMV.
