bgp != cheap using a router hardware... the basic main purpose of creating
an open source bgp like openbgpd for example is to prove that you can do bgp
in a cheapest way without compromising performance but instead can do a lot
more... some ISPs understand this benefit it can give and others dont...

That is true. But my point is (and fooler, you know this) how many carriers or ISP's are running their BGP core routing on Linux?
Yes, Alcatel has a 10,000-circuit PBX hardware that runs Linux. But you can bet it's very, very expensive. And yes, the Nokia firewalls run OpenBSD. And they are very expensive. Running these types of applications on PC-class hardware is really scary. And if you get robust hardware, the price is VERY similar to dedicated hardware.
