The newer Radeons badly suck on Linux in terms of performance (speed, et.al). The Radeon 7000 series is quite good but it's already showing its age... and it's only good on uniprocessor systems. Unless you wish to be stuck with only up to 64MB of VRAM then the older Radeons would be fine. On another note, based on personal experience: SMP + ATI Radeon (even the 7000 series) + X11 = death This is a known bug for both the X11 code (not being able to handle SMP that well), and maybe the in-kernel ati driver. Even disabling the DRI in X doesn't relieve the general flakiness of the system. So if you've got SMP systems with ATI video chipsets... beware... -- Paolo Alexis Falcone [EMAIL PROTECTED] _________________________________________________ Philippine Linux Users' Group (PLUG) Mailing List [email protected] (#PLUG @ irc.free.net.ph) Read the Guidelines: http://linux.org.ph/lists Searchable Archives: http://archives.free.net.ph
