is it because of the apache updates i've installed via apt-get that is incompatible ? if it is, how do i make it use the former, like uninstalling the update and forcing it to use the old software. TIA

first, check ur mail logs, probably in /var/log/maillog..if u can't find
anything unusual, check ur IMAP server.
u can tweak php to increase its execution time. Open ur /etc/php.ini file and
look for the "Resource Limits" section. Increase ur max_execution_time.
Reload/restart ur web server.
Hth.
i've changed the time as you've suggested from 30 to 60 then to 120 but to no avail, i still get the same fatal error message. sighhhh
is it because of the apache updates i've installed via apt-get that is incompatible ? if it is, how do i make it use the former, like uninstalling the update and forcing it to use the old software. TIA
btw, what IMAP server are u using?
i'm using courier-imap + imapproxy + postfix + 2.1.5 + squirrelmail 1.4.4 + amavisd-new + clamav + spamassasin in my debian sarge box.
