Never mind. It now appears to be one of those random bugs that afflict all software. (It wasn't random at all yesterday.) I can now connect to the GoogleTalk network. But since I don't have any friends, I can't test the actual chat. However, I can note two different things between today's and yesterday's setups. The system has been re-initialized (init 1 ; exit) and I'm using a different pre-paid ISP. My suspects: my earlier installation of the GoogleTalk Windows client or the other ISP. The console error isn't really very helpful: Gaim has segfaulted and attempted to dump a core file. This is a bug in the software and has happened through no fault of your own. It is possible that this bug is already fixed in CVS. If you can reproduce the crash, please notify the gaim maintainers by reporting a bug at http://gaim.sourceforge.net/bug.php Please make sure to specify what you were doing at the time, and post the backtrace from the core file. If you do not know how to get the backtrace, please get instructions at http://gaim.sourceforge.net/gdb.php. If you need further assistance, please IM either SeanEgn or LSchiere and they can help you.
