Contracts are reciprocal arrangements and they can impose nearly any condition, as long as such conditions are enforceable (e.g. 'you must give me your firstborn child as a slave' is not enforceable because slavery is against the law). Pseudo-contracts might be a good term, as you aren't required to sign it. Much like someone paying the fare to a jeepney driver - you pay the jeepney driver to get there, and the jeepney driver is obligated to get you there alive and uninjured :D
