yes... the Vmware server beta is the GSX, and free as in beer for Linux and Windows. But the Server beta is a bit better, by having virtual SMP and experimental support for AMD64=EM64T.
I see good things to come from VMware. One of our clients will be using Vmware ESX in a huge way.
