Yodel is a YM client for Emacs. If you use Emacs that is. But as Jerome Gotangco pointed out you can connect to YM using an IRC client.
You can use irssi, epic or whatever. Even ERC or rcirc on Emacs ;)
Connect to Bitlbee's public server im.bitlbee.org, port 6667
Then create an account. You could also connect to MSN and Jabber via Bitlbee.
