Using the satellite as transport can be a challenge though, but for what its worth, I've already tested the Flumotion streaming server which uses the GStreamer multimedia framework. It was used heavily during GUADEC last year. Clients can either be a web browser, VLC or Totem or any client that supports GStreamer.
