Hello Tata,

Of course, it depends on the cisco router. In your case, since you were considering a dlink broadband router I am assuming your broadband connection simply uses ethernet. In this case, one option is the Cisco 871. The price for a brand new one is approximately PHP 35,000 , but this depends largely on what local supplier you get it from. You can also purchase it with wifi capability, but I don't know how much that costs. Be warned that it takes a while to order these things.

Naturally, if you use serial connections for your WAN, cisco routers would cost much more than that.

I've been searching for a long time for simple ethernet-to-ethernet routers that are meant for SOHO or medium sized office environments that don't cost an arm and a leg like the full-blown cisco ones. The problem with cheap routers is that for some reason, most don't support full routing (the irony) if you enable features such as DHCP server...if at all. They were meant for home use and usually just do NAT. For a reasonably functional ethernet-to-ethernet router , I suggest the Linksys RV042 which costs approximately PHP 11,000. A lot cheaper than the Cisco 871.

Hi,

Actually, this is the debate here in our office to use a dlink broadband
router or maximize the potential of our linux box. I'm planning to setup a
ftp site on this case.

In addition, do you have any idea how much is a cisco router?

Thanks again.
