Thanks for the kind words, Vince. I was actually thinking of slapping a Creative Commons license on the document but I was afraid that the writers might not use it because of restrictions on their part. So I left it out. Anyway, I hope it finds its audience. I ran the press kit through Joey Alarilla of Inq7 and it came out with fairly good reviews. Joey recommended that apart from a mailing list it the content also be placed on a web site for easy reference. So here's the first pass: http://linux.org.ph/presskit. Please help me update the info on the VARs and consultants there. If I got a name wrong, tell me; if someone's missing from there, tell me, too. It's a living document, though, so I'm not worried. It's been almost a month since I kicked off this project, and I think the groundwork has been laid. Once the first press kit gets sent out, I'll give it a rest for a month. I'll also be writing regularly for Computerworld and PC Magazine. The first articles should come out sometime in March. That said, we really need more PLUGgers to write. Again, if you're interested, please email me and I will try to get you in touch with an editor. Rates are anywhere from P1,000 to P1,500 per article, so it's not so bad for a side income. With due apologies to Renan, I never really properly answered his question on what types of articles I would like to see. Sorry about that, R., I was feeling cranky that day. So in answer to the question, off the top of my head, the articles I might like to see are: 1) The difference between Free Software and Open Source Software. 2) Layman's view of the software development process (source, revision control system, libraries, binaries, etc.) to better explain the difference between GPL and LGPL. 3) Primer on the Gnome and KDE projects. (Yes, these are all so easy. Now, put them in writing.) There's more out there, so I'd go back to my original admonition: use your imagination. No rush, though, I want to pace entries into the kit so the journalists have something to chew on each time. Finally, I want to populate the interview resources with names of technical people who are willing to be interviewed for articles. But before I do that, I want to make sure that everyone goes through a session on dealing with the media. I hope Gary Mercado can run that in the next quarterly technical seminar. Thanks to all who gave inputs. It helped form the thought. -- Dominique Gerald M.
