have you tried playing with your 8 throttling state? moreover, what is your default cpu scaling then during your normal laptop activities?

I also tried to set the kernel to boot with either "acpi=on" and "acpi=off" options and also loading the acpi modules especially the "fan" module during bootup but still, my laptop always goes beyond the normal temperature. I also found out that I have a different output for the ACPI's fan when trying to check the output of dmesg and logs compared to the status output of my /proc/acpi/fan/*/* files. You can try to check the snippet below and the attached zip file for more information. Any tips? - - - < s n i p > - - - $ sudo tail -f /var/log/messages Feb 26 10:23:24 localhost kernel: [ 8.240572] ACPI: Fan [C270] (off) Feb 26 10:23:24 localhost kernel: [ 8.240693] ACPI: Fan [C271] (off) Feb 26 10:23:24 localhost kernel: [ 8.240789] ACPI: Fan [C272] (off) Feb 26 10:23:24 localhost kernel: [ 8.240898] ACPI: Fan [C273] (off) Feb 26 10:23:24 localhost kernel: [ 8.245339] ACPI: CPU0 (power states: C1[C1] C3[C3]) Feb 26 10:23:24 localhost kernel: [ 8.245345] ACPI: Processor [C000] (supports 8 throttling states) Feb 26 10:23:24 localhost kernel: [ 8.255383] ACPI: Thermal Zone [TZ1] (42 C) Feb 26 10:23:24 localhost kernel: [ 8.260194] ACPI: Thermal Zone [TZ2] (32 C) Feb 26 10:23:24 localhost kernel: [ 8.269727] ACPI: Thermal Zone [TZ3] (16 C) $ sudo cat /proc/acpi/fan/*/* status: on status: on status: on status: on $ sudo cat /proc/acpi/thermal_zone/*/* <setting not supported> cooling mode: passive <polling disabled> state: passive active[0] temperature: 51 C critical (S5): 95 C passive: 16 C: tc1=1 tc2=2 tsp=100 devices=0xffff810001654dc0 active[0]: 16 C: devices=0xffff810017fa0f80 active[1]: 16 C: devices=0xffff810017fa0e40 active[2]: 16 C: devices=0xffff810017fa0d40 active[3]: 16 C: devices=0xffff810017fa0c40 <setting not supported> cooling mode: passive <polling disabled> state: passive temperature: 49 C critical (S5): 100 C passive: 16 C: tc1=1 tc2=2 tsp=300 devices=0xffff810001654dc0 <setting not supported> cooling mode: passive <polling disabled> state: passive temperature: 16 C critical (S5): 100 C passive: 16 C: tc1=1 tc2=2 tsp=300 devices=0xffff810001654dc0 - - - < s n i p > - - - Thank you. --- MARVIN T.
