your swap file should probably at least the size of RAM, I'd make
it a bit larger.  Mine is around 1GB with ram at 768MB.

then, in your boot manager, add resume=/dev/[your_swap_partition]
to the boot kernel params.

and try to suspend.

getting swsusp *is* a pain though. I think i spent around a month
or two, off-and-on getting it working on my old laptop.  and 
maybe 3-4 days off-and-on on this one. once it's working though,
it's great.
