These two goals you are espousing can either be
a) orthogonal to each other. Given the age of this PowerPC-based machine, a 
lightweight distro would give you learning curves in the area of maintenance.
b) relative to your definition of "easy to maintain". Once you've gotten past 
the initial install, maintaining it would be the same as how you'd maintain 
an average IBM PC-compatible machine.
