However, IMHO this doesn't hold for OS X since the manufacturer also produces much of the hardware. For the stuff that's already in the box -- video, sound, and other I/O circuitry -- Apple isn't so stupid as to fail to write driver support. OTOH, if you're talking about peripherals, e.g, scanners or USB TV boxes, you could be right. They have to be, don't they, because the Linux kernel is under the GPL. Mac OS X? The kernel, Mach microkernel 3.0 if I'm not mistaken, and the BSD utilities are of course FOSS. Aqua (or whatever they call the interface) isn't. As an aside, I went to HMR earlier and found Bayanihan running on the PCs there. There was also one PC running Linspire which despite its PhP2.5K (approximate) *is* FOSS. -- Daniel O.
