The wireless drivers found in OpenBSD are among the best I've seen so far. There's already work underway to do that in Linux (with the inclusion of libieee80211) but that'll take time. As for some in-kernel functionality in the BSD's, some still do suck (SMP for instance, although they just got the BKL removed in FreeBSD lately). The good thing though is that there's fair amount of innovation occuring in the Unix-based operating systems. Competition is good. And best of all, they're all free! :D > technically, linux can't beat mac os x in macppc platform! since > macosx is specifically written for that piece of hardware. Sulit naman > eh, and very much stable. MacOSx is the way to go for ppc. Huh? MacOSX raw performance sucks compared to Linux! That has been confirmed over and over again by many independent experts. Consider that MacOSX is just a BSD kernel personality sitting on top of a Mach microkernel - that itself imposes performance penalties due to IPC issues. Contrast this with a monolithic kernel wherein there's no need for IPCs. Linux on the PowerPC 970 (FX/MP) drives the hardware further compared to Darwin/MacOSX. Of course, you don't intend to use MacOSX as a server. Fine... -- Paolo Alexis Falcone [EMAIL PROTECTED]
