Hi, Migs,

Sorry for the late reply.  But anyway....

Oh I thought you set up Infocom. And it was still open source
sendmail, httpd, etc. on Unix, wasn't it?

Infocom is a funny story in many ways.  It was my last sale in Digital before leaving for IBM, and two years later I was involved in IBM's competitive bid to replace the Alphas with an RS/6000 SP.  (Yes, you can roll your eyes).

I didn't actually do the installation of the Alphas at Digital.  I wasn't sure who did, but I think it might have been Ronald de Guzman, as someone mentioned.

But to answer your question: yeah, a lot of the stuff they used was open source.  Sendmail for the mailer, for instance.  And NNTP, because that's how people got their kicks back then.

Now there's one really funny story about the actual transition from Alpha to RS/6000....but I won't post it online lest I lose a good yarn, and I'll only give it up after a few beers.

That's Dom... international man of pioneering Internet :)

Yeah, baby, yeah!

Thanks for starting this thread, Migs.
