To be precise, you don't buy a "licensed copy". You already get that by default if you somehow received your copy in compliance with the GPL, *even if you didn't get it directly from Red Hat*. The only reason why entities besides Red Hat cannot offer ISO images of RHEL to the general public is that Red Hat can sue you for *trademark infringement* by providing the software without a support subscription. This is why the only modification that CentOS does is to remove the Red Hat trademarks from the sources which Red Hat provides. > 2. Is it legal to install Redhat compiled packages to CentOS or any > other distro? The Redhat compiled packages are still under the GPL aren't they? If you do this yourself you should have no problems. > 3. If you replaced the components they certified with components you got elsewhere, you're basically on your own. > 3. Have anyone tested the stability of Centos? (aside from the > claim-fact that it was built > from RHEL) What's the uptime of your CentOS installation? Well, if they're built from the same sources with the same compiler, using the same build switches that Red Hat used, then they must be bit for bit identical, shouldn't they? Do you have any reason to doubt this? > 4. Will you bet your job for CentOS? ;) We have used CentOS on production servers for several of our clients in mission-critical environments. > 6. The Redhat Cluster suite isnt an implemenation of SSI-cluster, right? > (I'm puzzled in > understanding their words) No, it isn't. Red Hat Cluster Suite implements an application-level clustering system, not a single system image clustering system. I think what you're looking for is a commercially-supported version of openMosix, and should tune your googling accordingly. -- Kotae wa kantan... http://stormwyrm.blogspot.com/ _________________________________________________ Philippine Linux Users' Group (PLUG) Mailing List [email protected] (#PLUG @ irc.free.net.ph) Read the Guidelines: http://linux.org.ph/lists Searchable Archives: http://archives.free.net.ph
