I am not sure about sendmail but I can give you an idea:
Is there something in the configuration file that would instruct Sendmail not to receive mails with large attachments?
Or, are you using a filtering application ( e.g., MailScanner) that you can configure to reject mails larger than a specified size?

If you can tweak any of the two above, then you don't have to manually delete large mails. :)
