You don't have to do this in Debian's and Ubuntu's `apache2', since
they have this enabled by default (as well as tons of other options,
see the source's `debian/rules' file.)
Also worth noting is Danga Interactive's memcached system[0] that was
used by LiveJournal; Sean Chittenden's libmemcache[1] provides a C API
lib of it (which I maintain in Debian ;)
