Maybe we can send a very polite automated reply to first time posters (maybe we can keep a db of oldtimers). In that reply, we will *welcome* them to the list, and we will *gently* inform them that a FAQ exists, that PLUG has archives, and that there is our ever reliable friend Google for Linux. We can also guide them as to how to ask _intelligent_ questions in order to help them properly. And maybe we can provide them a link to proper nettiquettes.
In this way, both the oldtimers and first-timers will be happy. I guess, it will be work for our venerated mailing-list admin, but hey, I think it's worth the effort. :)
I can compose that ultra-polite email that will make them feel welcome (having in mind J.L. Austin's and H.P. Grice's theories to help me out) and convey a message of willingness to help from this list.
Again, my Php 0.01. And a bag of salt to taste.
