louis,

ubuntu forums i think has a solution. sorry don't have the link. i just remember reading it over at slashdot.

the sound isssue and acpi will resolve itself once you get the right drivers in place. some kernel tweeking may get you somewhere. dapper i've been testing it out on virtualization and looks good. it should resolve some of your difficulties. otherwise, you'd have to manually tweek your system to bring the sound and acpi up to spec.

hope that helps.

cheers,

Thad, Erwin and TritonPH,

My BenQ Joybook S52 works out of the box, too. Everything EXCEPT sound and ACPI! At least the ACPI, I tried the MEPIS 6.0 beta 4 and it works perfectly. The only lingering problem has been the sound. I've wandered the Net for an answer, but no cigar so far. Since MEPIS has been adapting an Ubuntu backbone lately, I hardly believe that Dapper will work.

My notebook's WLAN, from lspci, is "Network controller: Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 2200BG (rev 05)"
