Hi Herman,

Is this the CHITS project website?

Sorry for the late reply.

CHITS was designed for use in health centers. Health centers have very basic
needs. However, because CHITS is modular, we have deployed CHITS in the PGH
bloodbank (which handles 10% of the total blood supply of the Philippines) -
meaning we have developed a module for blood banking as well.

A full blown hospital information system contains many more modules that
would need to be built inside CHITS. A pharmacy information system (in
itself complex) could easily be built andi integrated with the rest of the
CHITS modules. This is extending CHITS where it was not intended to be in
the first place.

I have even used it to serve as a platform for doing natural language
processing (using machine learning algorithms) of vaccine adverse event
reports. I essentially developed plug-in modules to do this.

The idea behind CHITS is to have interchangeable Lego blocks developed open
source style. However, being an application in the health care domain,
development of CHITS modules can be simple to complicated, depending on the
domain we are dealing with (critical are, emergency medicine, cardiology,
anesthesiology, operating room management would be complex ones). If people
are interested in developing for CHITS (there is a developer community at
berlios.de) and learning about software development in health care open
source style (a unique opportunity), please email me in or out of the list.

Cheers,

Herman (Tolentino)
