Subject: [plug] LINUX GATEWAY min requirement
hi guys,
i was planning to set up LINUX ROUTER here in our company...
we had several pentium 133mhz, 32 MB CPU...
though i know it can be configured perfectly for a linux router...
just wondering if its enough to maximize our internet speed?
we had a 2MB ADSL connection as PLDT said..
around 40 CPU in the house...
2 mbps / 8 bits per byte / 1500 bytes for MTU size is around to 167 packets
per second which is small enough to handle by a 133mhz cpu for routing
purposes only or acting as a router... 167 packets times 1500 bytes is
around 250k bytes of memory consumed out of your 32mb ram... things to
change when you add services which consumes more cpu cycles and memory...
you have to trim down your linux kernel to conserve memory, adjust HZ value
for how much cpu time attentition you want to give for every active process
and optimize every services you installed to fit from your 32mb ram...
fooler.
