Red Hat 9!
That was my first Linux Distro way back in 2001. And I also had the same problem with you. :)
Easy solution would be to install another distro which is newer.

NTFS support is still in the kernel level so there's no getting around re-compiling. Maybe in the future, FUSE would support that too. :)

Now if you insist on using RedHat9, search the internet for pre-compiled NTFS modules that would go with your installed kernel. It's in RPM format so it's just a matter of
#rpm -ihvp yyyy.rpm.
