imho, regardless of the config, introducing additional layers
(ie. LVM, DRBD, even Journalling) would definitely increase
the peformance overhead which you might not notice when
conducting a test with only a few clients (assuming a
network-based service).

if i may, kindly test your desired setup with the worst-case
traffic that can be generated by your network. then check if
the performance is tolerable including the projected traffic
growth for the next 3-5 years.
