The official Firefox build by the Mozilla Foundation probably does not include GNOME VFS support. The "distro builds" (Linux distro specific builds) usually include GNOME VFS support. So if you use the "distro builds," you'll most likely don't need to recompile Firefox. -- Gideon N.
