So you get in now?

of course i get it.  for years. hahaha.

M$ is all about presentation. There is more than enough mindshare in
this list that can provide that kind of technical support don't you
think.

sometimes its not about mindshare. and certainly this collective groups has enough expertise in between to give any big name organization a run for its money.  sometimes its fear/mind and relationship building--- sales and marketing in otherwords and not the technical superiority of one's product that wins the day.

Why not? Something as critical as that deserves to be scrutinized
more. With enough eyes aren't all bugs shallow. Would you honestly
trust to a few eyes a system that could possibly decimate an entire
population simply because of a coding error?

well i meant was open source is good that everyone's eyes can indeed look into it. we all know what happened to that Mars mission that went crazy because of a simple miscalculation.  thats beside the point.  the ethical considerations of starting an open source project like building a missile launch system or an antimissile system. not all things should be so open like missile source code or how to build an atomic bomb for example shouldn't be left lying around for some 12 year old with anger in his heart to just download and "play" with. not all things should be open or open sourced. i'd like to think we have enough things to play around with like making better healthcare systems or open source in education.

NASA's been running linux on their shuttles. If its good enough for NASA...

its not about open source not being good enough. its about the ethics of building weapons systems and using open source methods to do it, which opens a can of worms for bad people to simply just take the code and do their evil thing. it makes it easier for the bad or messed up people to make the world a more terrible place. somethings people should just layout in the open. now building a linux cluster for the purpose of climate monitoring or traffic management now those goals should be excellent open source projects.

Exactly the reason for the move to free software.

At least you don't have to justify BUYING the GIMP.

THAT is true.

Freedom above all. But then, that's just me.

cool.
