thanks for your reply. im beginning researching all the things you
said so at least i know how they function before im gonna install
them, such as firehol, or smoothwall... as for ubuntu we already have
a Ubuntu server version downloaded from ubuntu.com...

i'll keep you posted if we experience problems here. thanks again..

you can use a system dedicated solely for your purpose like pfsense,
monowall, ipcop or smoothwall, it has firewall/NAT/dhcp/proxy/DNS forwarding
and none of the services which you don't need. with regards to dns, for
faster name resolution it is adviced that you install a local DNS server but
if you wish to install any of the above FOSS i mentioned, you only need to
enable dns forwarding and you're good to go or you can use your ISP's name
service.
