There was a problem with the xserver-core patch from dapper-updates that borked a lot of dapper installations but was fixed a few minutes after but it was too late for most users who rebooted.
From your console, do an update again by doing apt-get update then

i have ubuntu dapper installed on my computer, like i usually do after installing ubuntu since hoary, i used automatix to configure my system... it downloaded and installed nvidia video driver without a problem before ... and i downloaded all the updates from ubuntu and it requires me to restart my computer bec it updated the kernel.... after restarting my computer, Gnome did not launch and it give my an error saying xserver was not configure properly, need help on how to configure xserver :-C
