You know what? I am not a Linux guru, just a common Linux enthusiast,
who happens to advocate the use of FOSS in our local government. This
seems to be off-topic, but I just want to react on the current
discussion. As a new Linux user and new member of PLUG, I can't help
but notice that most of the "technical" topics, which are likely to be
helpful to the new users, end up in childish bickering and showing
off. This topic is not the first which went overboard, there are many
out there in PLUG.

It hurts me because I advocated FOSS in our city and, in fact, am
scheduled to do a simple presentation to the city council this week
regarding the benefits of FOSS, particularly in office and IT
management. If people from our locality would investigate about FOSS
and bumps into this mailing list, certainly they can use it against my
proposal and against other advocacies in the country that even the
people in PLUG, who are supposedly supporting Linux users, are
fighting each other as regards what languages to use, or what's the
best distro in the world, or how local TV stations represent the
illiteracy of the Filipinos.

If we could just stay on-topic and contribute our thoughts with FOSS's
philosophy in mind, then we could learn a lot from each other.

Just my two cents,

Harvey
