I just want to share to you my another experienced regarding Linux
desktop. Again I chose Linux because I don't want to buy another MS
Win XP, because we already spent a lot of money buying and installing
license MS products in our small company.
Last time I was able to use Mandriva (Limited Edition). I was able to
make our church website using Nvu web editor and GIMP. Surfing the
Internet and doing my daily task as a system administrator helps me a
lot and using basic Internet services.
I tried yesterday Ubuntu 6.06 LTS and it was faster than Mandriva when
opening programs and using them simultaneously.
My CPU hardware specifications is:
Celeron 2.0 Ghz
40 Gb hardisk
256 Mb memory
64 mb video card
Ubuntu 6.06 is easier to update, add programs and now I was able to
use the one of the faster web browser (Opera). I'm glad Opera can be
easily installed and run in Ubuntu. Thanks to those people who help to
make it possible. I can also rip music and use Amarok to play them. :D
I'm using Linux desktop for almost 2 years now. I tried also different
Linux flavors and now I chose Ubuntu because it is really free and the
developers are really serious to improve it as we can see on the
Ubuntu website. Rightnow it is the choice of a lot of Linux users
around the world as a desktop Linux.
More power to Linux and open source softwares! Happy Free Software Day!
