From what I've experienced with beta releases. It won't stop working
after the final version is launched. But the repository and updated software that is released afterwards may not be compatible with the beta(or the updates may even cease to exist).
Generally, if it's for production environment, I'd go the safe path, not unless you're talking about Desktop Linux, where you can be a little adventurous, since it's not supposed to hold critical data.
