This is how our tally differs from the official as well as the NAMFREL tally: The precinct results we will collect from the field (everything by text/SMS) will remain disaggregated by precinct and will by accessible to the public (individual precinct results by text, or the entire database of results thru the Internet). This means that any ordinary person who simply watches the precinct canvassing and jots down the results will be able to audit our database, by checking if what he saw with his own eyes matches what is on our database. Not only a citizen's audit, but a citizen's tally also becomes possible, because if you download the database of precinct results, you can compute the totals yourself. If we turned out to be cheats and manipulated the precinct data, we will simply expose ourselves because many people will notice that what they saw on the tally board is different from what is posted on our database. In short, we are using the technology to make the tally much more transparent, enabling ordinary people to determine if our database is credible or not. Regards to all, especially some familiar names... Obet Verzola PS. On the question whether the software itself will be free software. My thinking right now is to release it under the BSD license at the proper time, probably after the elections. My reason is that I'd rather not make the source available to cheats at this time. I'm open to suggestions though. -- the thing i like with my linux pc is that i can sum up my complaints in 5 items _________________________________________________ Philippine Linux Users' Group (PLUG) Mailing List [email protected] (#PLUG @ irc.free.net.ph) Read the Guidelines: http://linux.org.ph/lists Searchable Archives: http://archives.free.net.ph -------------------------------------------------------------------- mail2web - Check your email from the web at http://mail2web.com/ . _________________________________________________ Philippine Linux Users' Group (PLUG) Mailing List [email protected] (#PLUG @ irc.free.net.ph) Read the Guidelines: http://linux.org.ph/lists Searchable Archives: http://archives.free.net.ph
