Hi Thad
But if you ask if Linux and FOSS is good for our government, all I can say is NSA has recommended SELinux, all fortune top 500 runs Linux in their businesses, China is using Linux, India is using Linux and so is Hezbollah,Alqaeda, Iran and Iraq. For whatever use and purposes FOSS have served us all well.
But Linux is not 100% used by NSA (or is it NASA), or all fortune top 500 companies, or China, or India, etc, etc. Or how about those proprietary, non-FOSS running inside those Linux boxes? So why our government will favor FOSS 100% for all ICT implementations while these companies/countries/etc are not going for a full, 100% adoption of FOSS? FOSS has provided us a different perspective on quality software, however, it's not perfect or well suited for all computing needs. It's not a silver bullet (sorry for overusing this phrase). Let's K.I.S.S.: The FOSS bill shouldn't force government to use it but instead promote it. _________________________________________________ Philippine Linux Users' Group (PLUG) Mailing List [email protected] (#PLUG @ irc.free.net.ph) Read the Guidelines: http://linux.org.ph/lists Searchable Archives: http://archives.free.net.ph
