Hello, everyone. This is my first time posting to the group, so if I come across as a noob (newbie), I hope you'll go easy on me. :)
For those in a hurry:
1) How do I resolve a "no response to EOP repeated 3 tries" error when sending a fax via Hylafax?
2) How do I resolve an issue with distorted output when faxing from Hylafax to a fax machine?
------
Is anyone here using Hylafax? It's a fax server that, among other things, allows you to send a fax from a Windows client. I'm setting up Hylafax on Centos 4.3. Managed to get the fax modem installed (just plugged it in, kudzu ran by itself and detected the modem on ttyS01). Then I tried to build Hylafax from source, but that didn't work because it couldn't find a few things (libtiff)? So I installed Hylafax via rpm. It asked for sharutils, so it installed that too.
I went through the Hylafax configuration using faxsetup, and used mostly default settings. Naiba lang ata yung mga country code, area code, etc. Then I ran faxaddmodem, and entered the modem port, etc.
I also installed the Hylafax admin module in Webmin so I could keep an eye on things.
Then I installed WHFC as my windows hylafax client and tried to send a fax. WHFC allows you to create a fax printer on your windows machine based on any postscript printer driver in your system. It will also let you monitor your fax status. The first time, I tried sending to an aging Panasonic machine. The fax was rather garbled, some of the lines ran into each other, and some of the lines were cut in half horizontally. I also could not send a fax successfully because I kept getting a "no response to EOP repeated 3 tries" error.
Then I tried to fax to a newer Brother machine. Managed to send a complete fax message. Still got a garbled fax though.
I suspect there might be something wrong with my libtiff? Bug perhaps? or version incompatibility with Hylafax? Though, I was able to access the jpeg of my fax (that was presumably generated by Hylafax) from the fax queue, using Webmin. Or maybe I need a better modem driver. Or maybe I need to turn something on or off in the Hylafax config.
Would appreciate if someone who has encountered this issue could shed some light on this, or if someone can suggest other ways to troubleshoot this problem.
If it matters, I'm running the x86_64 build of Centos 4.3 on an AMD Sempron system. The modem is a D-Link DFM560-EL Webcruiser, external.
