How about the older Linksys APs, the BES series... (11b).  will Linux WRT work?
The problem with this unit is that the wifi doesn't work anymore and I don't know why.
come to think of it I have another WRT54G  with a flakey wireless signal...time to reflash and see if it works.

Get a WRT54GL (notice the L) instead because the newer WRT54G models (version
5.0 and above) requires a soldering gun to install any Linux-based firmware.
Another option would be the WRT54GS, espsecially version 3 and below because
they have more memory and storage. Don't get WRT54GS version 5.0 and above
because they're not compatible with any Linux-based firmware.

Anyway, here's the list of serial number prefixes for the Linksys' WRT54G
models that are compatible with Linux (excluding versions that require
soldering to flash the router):

CDF0 = WRT54G v1.0
CDF1 = WRT54G v1.0
CDF2 = WRT54G v1.1
CDF3 = WRT54G v1.1
CDF5 = WRT54G v2.0
CDF7 = WRT54G v2.2
CDF8 = WRT54G v3.0
CDF9 = WRT54G v3.1
CDFA = WRT54G v4.0

CL7A = WRT54GL v1.0
CL7B = WRT54GL v1.1

CGN0 = WRT54GS v1.0
CGN1 = WRT54GS v1.0
CGN2 = WRT54GS v1.1
CGN3 = WRT54GS v2.0
CGN4 = WRT54GS v2.1
CGN5 = WRT54GS v3.0
CGN6 = WRT54GS v4.0

CJK0 = WRTSL54GS v1.0
