Oldest solution would be to run 'mail'. If you want something a bit
friendly, you can install 'mutt'. If you want to retrieve them over
the network, you'll have to install a pop3/imap daemon. Simplest one I
ever installed was uw-imap. Just don't use it for high loads. IIRC, it
uses inetd. For forwarding, you could probably use 'procmail'. Never
used procmail myself though.
