Hi Joey,

If you do end up re-installing the system , I suggest the ff. additional
steps to minimize this ever happening again :

 1) Tripwire the server & keep the resulting signature db file on a floppy.
This will enable you to track if something has been changed, no matter how
obscure & buried the program or config file is.

 2) Minimize root access. Only you & a (very) few others should have root
access. All others should only have access to their date, or if necessary
dbadmin/application access to specific services.

 Good luck on your investigation!

Subject: [plug] some rhel services problem

hi!

for some reason, my rhel 4 system, doesn't seem to be doing what it's
supposed to. it's not serving web pages (intranet) (httpd), not giving
ip addr (dhcpd), not serving files (tftpd).

i dont know what went wrong, it wasnt running the day before, somebody
must have touched it. i will look into that later, meantime, i need to
know why it's not doing what its supposed to.

any idea where to start looking for the problem?

thank you!

joey
