I think, another thing to do is to make sipsip (what's this in english) to
the government and politicians like what Microsoft and others have been
doing.

I remember in my elementary school days. Pupils who has made sipsip to
teachers often got the teacher's favor and support, than those pupils who
chose to remain unnoticed. I think this is something also applicable between
FOSS advocates and the government.

(Just my 2 centavos)

Hi David,

There plenty of ways to help out.

1. Press CDs with Ubuntu Linux or any distro that has both a LiveCD
and Installer in one. This can be distributed to government agencies
via a FOSS champion. It is important that there is a champion who
will make sure that the CD is used at least a couple of times and
installed at least once. Giving away CDs will not cut it - you will
just be giving away free coasters! :)

2. Adopt-a-school project. I have been challenging PLUG to do this --
launch a program where Linux advocates can pledge to help a school by
providing free Linux installers and training to teachers and
students. However, I only heard from two members from the provinces.
Sad but true.

UnPLUG and ACM UP Chapter, both University-based student
organizations, are doing this already, at least to some extent, by
providing training and CDs to other schools.

3. Sponsor certification exams - US$100/examinee. You guys can screen
the applicants and then coordinate with me as to when the next LPI
Level 1 certification exam will be held. This provides us with more
ammo when dealing with agencies and organizations. Whilst it is not
necessary to be certified to do advocacy, training and consultancy
work but it is nice to have. :)

4. If you have developers, coordinate with a couple of developers
here to start a softdev project that will benefit an agency or
something. A simple inventory of drugs for the health centers is a
big help already. :)

I am sure that we can think of more ways for you to help out.

Cheers!
