hi vic! (yes, long time no read)

of course a dns caching server within the mail server will help. the point is 
that name resolution should be quick in order for the high volume MTA to 
perform optimally. otherwise, it can be the bottleneck in that situation where 
your MTA is already performing well with the amount of traffic that it is 
handling.
