Hello,

Can somebody help me to set up a basic linux system (in Quezon City.MM). I'd
like to have installed Sylpheed (or other maildir system), a browser, a html
composer/editor, and Java JDK.

At present. I have Debian etch installed (from CD) -but my dial-up internet
connection is very bad. It's taking 4 hours to update the Aptitude package list
-and even then I get a comment that not all packages have been downloaded and I
should update the package list..... Trying to install Sylpheed via Aptitude
took 2 hours and was a waste of time because apparently some packages were
corrupted when unpacked. The sources.list had to be editied by hand because the
installation CD couldn't set up a mirror (presumably because I needed to
configure the modem before going on-line).

I'm not very technical and would really like a sysop who, perhaps for a small
fee, could occaisionally maintain the system. Once I have a working system, I'm
not too worried about getting the latest version of something. If it works then
I'm happy to keep using it. Keeping up with recent java jdk updates is perhaps
the biggest driver for periodic updating.
