Is there a place, say in /proc, where you can set the two values to be equal? If this is possible to set in /proc, then there is no need for a kernel recompile. I think that my laptop has zero video ram, and video takes out some space from main memory. To Tiger Quimpo, Michael Tinsay, Zak Elep, Orlando Andico, and everyone who answered my post: thank you. Unfortunately, I can not try the the solutions that you suggested, since I have already installed UbuntuLTS over the former FC6 partition. I wish I had time to experiment to see what is causing the problem. If I need to teach FC system admin again, I will try the various solutions suggested here. Thanks.
